Most playgrounds are considered safe for children. However, the Imizamo Yethu Community Playground isn't your typical park. We first discovered the condition of the playground while filming a music video for our students. At the time, an ample amount of broken bottles and glass covered the ground as kids played in the park, some with bare feet. We decided to give the students enrolled in our production workshops a tour of the Artscape Theatre to provide them with a glimpse of how things are operated behind the scenes. Zane, our tour guide, showed the students multiple stages where they hold plays and live performances. Zane also provided the students with knowledge about lighting, various stage designs, costumes, and even showed them what to expect during a full day of work.
After settling in, the Meet & Teach volunteers take a break from workshops and go for a hike up Lion’s Head Mountain. Overlooking the city, Lion’s Head stands 2195 feet above sea level providing a scenic view of nearby Table Mountain, Robben Island, suburban Cape Town, and the Atlantic sea. There were close to 400 hundreds youth that attended the Hangberg Christmas Party, which was organized by the Harvest Youth Project in collaboration with the Meet & Teach organization. Pastor Philip Frans and other local sponsors joined together to make the day special and successful. During the Christmas Party, the youth had the opportunity to showcase some of their talents. The kids were very excited to dance, sing, and just enjoy the thrill of performing in front of a mass
